Transforming discoveries of mind, body, and soul into layers of visual exploration, New York born and raised artist Elissa Joy’s life journey flows through her art into multiple levels of self-reflection. She draws inspiration from subtleties, potentials, and the excitement, trepidation and limitless possibility found in transitions - personal, social and natural.
Elissa Joy earned a BFA in Design from FIT Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, then went on to attain a Masters in Art Education. Professionally she divides her time between public school art instruction and practicing her craft.
Elissa Joy manipulates color and form with a variety of mixed media - painting, drawing, photography, and digital graphics. Her strength and conviction to grow is evident by the intensity of the links bridging thoughts, feelings, and visions, between her inner and outer worlds. Her pieces vary from unbound and hopeful statements of self and society with veins of past experience, to more serious expositions anchored to her subconscious exegesis.
Elissa Joy opens her heart and soul and invites the viewer to courageously witness the visual representation of her thoughts and feelings, a life that is as wonderfully calm as it is chaotic. Vivid colors lunge at the viewer intentionally arousing the senses. Subject matter shifts from figurative to imaginative elements in a constant chase of personal truth. Her pieces give permission to the observer to engage in self exploration, a push to find the answers within themselves, or to simply face their path with hope. Flowing from playful organic to solid geometric shapes, Elissa Joy’s work continues to engage the viewer to take note with what resonates within themselves. The audience breathes in a sense of love for life and leaves with an understanding of an important pursuit: listen to your own heart and soul for what inspires you most
